Spanish contractors keep beating the Saudi desalination market
2018.12.19 From: Lucas Pastor
Lowest bidders have been recently announced for two of the largest desalination plants to be built in Saudi Arabia.
Al Khobar desalination plant, with 600.000 m3/day capacity and Jubail 2 desalination plant, with 400.000 m3/day, will be some of the largest desalination plants worldwide and they will be probably designed and built by Spanish contractors.
Abengoa (Spain), in consortium with SSEM (local), has submitted the lowest bid for Al Khobar desalination plant (525 Mill USD) beating the second lowest, Acciona (Spain) in consortium with RTCC (local) who submitted a bid of 535 Mill USD (and an alternative bid of 499 Mill USD). Spanish contractors are showing again their worldwide championship position in the desalination market beating other well-known contractors as Doosan (Korea), who submitted a bid of 558 Mill USD and the consortium formed by Sidem (France) and Sepco (China), who submitted a bid of 607 Mill USD.
In Jubail 2 desalination plant, Acciona (Spain), in consortium with RTCC (local), has submitted the lowest bid with 373 Mill USD beating in this case the other consortiums of Abengoa (Spain) + SSEM (local), Sidem (France) + Sepco (China) and SETE (local) + Rawafed (local).
Spanish contracting sector is proving again in Saudi Arabia its worldwide leadership in the infrastructures field not only in the railway (Makkah-Madinah High Speed Railway) and metro (Riyadh Metro) but also in the largest desalination projects.
