China Gezhouba Group International Engineering Co., Ltd (shorted as CGGC), a core member of China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd., signed a USD 500 million EPC contract with CPL Company in Bangkok, capital of Thailand. CGGC will be responsible for execution of the Changwat Khon Kaen 90MW CSP-PV Solar Power Plant in Thailand. 

The scope of EPC mainly includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, initial operation and supporting transmission and distribution network for the 90MW CSP-PV power plant. 

The project is located in Changwat Khon Kaen (Tai: จังหวัดขอนแก่น), Northeast of Thailand. Once completed, the plant will provide electricity to the region and efficiently ease the situation of power shortage. 

“Despite the influence of global COVID-19 pandemic, we keep on working and finally are able to sign this deal. We will try best to promote the execution of the project in the future”, said by CGGC International. 

With an estimated DNI of 1800 kWh/m2, Thailand is rich in solar resource, and solar power will be taking a leading role in Thailand’s new energy mix. 

According to the Energy Development Plan, Thailand aims to raise the ratio of renewable energy from 21% to 55% by the year of 2040. And a total capacity of 22.8GW solar power will be allocated to achieve this target.

As a matter of fact, this is the second time for CGGC to win overseas EPC deal in concentrated solar power (CSP) domain. 

As CSP Focus reported earlier, CGGC, together with its partner Zhejiang Supcon Solar Technology Co., Ltd. (shorted as Supcon Solar), was awarded as EPC contractor for Greek MINOS 50MW CSP Project in the early of 2019 last year.

The MINOS 50MW CSP project is located in the southeast of Crete, Greece and will be the first CSP project in Greece. The project will take tower CSP technology with an installed capacity of 50MW and a 5-hour molten salt heat storage system. Once completed, it can provide high-quality clean electricity equivalent to 10% of local electricity demand every year. 

The cooperation in the development and construction of this CSP project is regarded as a great sample for the cooperation between China, Greece and Britain under the “Belt and Road Initiative”.
