Welcomed and shown around by Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), CSP Focus MENA delegation consisting of nearly 30 CSP industry players paid a visit to NOOR Ouarzazate (NOORo) Solar complex yesterday on June 26.

The complex is comprised of three concentrated solar power plants 160MW parabolic trough NOORo1, 200MW parabolic trough NOORo2 and 150MW  power tower  NOORo3, and one PV plant 70MW NOORo4. Once fully completed by the end of this year, it will be world largest solar power and CSP project complex.

The visit is actually a pre-conference activity of CSP Focus MENA 2018 , which will be soon open today on June 27-28 in Es Saadi Marraekech Resort (FERMA DITM) in Marrakech.

As introduced by the plant staff, “NOORo I, 160 MWparabolic trough CSP project with 3 hours thermal electricity storage, was completed in February 2016. Over two years’ stable operation indicates that the project will soon be transferred to the owner by the end of this year.”

NOORo II, 200 MW parabolic trough CSP plant with 6 hours thermal electricity storage, has fully completed commissioning and is able to meet all the qualifications. The official commercial operation is expected next month in July.

NOORo III, 150MW power tower CSP plant with 7.5 hours thermal electricity storage, is now under commissioning stage with upcoming functional testing and performance testing, and hopefully finished by the end of this year.

“The peak time is around sunset in Morocco, for which the price of electricity is relatively higher offered by the government. That’s why NOORo CSP complex choose to sell the electricity more on peak time.”
