Storage Capacity : 10 hours, 1200 MWh
EPC Contract Signed Time: 12 Sept. 2015
Commercial Operation Day: Oct. 17, 2018
Total Cost (MKD): 116.5
LCOE ($c/kWh): 16
Reflector Technology: SKAL-ET (based on Eurothrough collector)
SCAs per Loop: 4, 206 loops in total
Aperture Area: 673, 620 m2
It is the first utility-scale CSP project in Kuwait. KISR opted for parabolic trough technology, with 10 hours of thermal energy storage (TES) using molten salt, and a dry cooling system to minimize water consumption.
Backup fossil fuel may be implemented only for operational purposes; the fuel foreseen is light fuel-oil which will be transported to the site via tankers. Water will be carried out to the plant by road tankers.
The CSP project with Thermal Energy Storage (TES) is important to cover peak demand periods. And it will enable Kuwait to assess the performance of this technology under local climate conditions.
