Morocco's advancing the largest CSP&PV Solar array
2017.06.01 From: CSP Focus
With vigor and vision, the government of Morocco is racing toward a renewable energy target of 42% by 2020 under the Moroccan Solar Plan (MSP), which entails an investment of USD 9 billion to achieve 2 GW of solar energy installed capacity by 2020.

Morocco broke ground on its 70 MW Noor Ouarzazate IV PV plant earlier this April, which is the PV portion of the 580 MW Ouarzazate Solar Power Station (OSPS), a CSP-PV solar power complex located in the Drâa-Tafilalet region, central Morocco.
The OSPS complex consists of three CSP plants and one PV plant. The 70 MW Noor Ouarzazate IV PV plant is also the fourth and final phase of OSPS complex. The three CSP plant project (510MW in total) is also the world largest CSP complex. It includes160 MW Noor 1 CSP parabolic trough plant, which was completed in February 2016, and 200MW Noor 2 CSP parabolic trough plant and 150MW Noor 3 CSP tower plant, which are currently under development, and have reached a completion rate of 76% and 74% respectively, industry resource says.
The Noor Ouarzazate IV PV project is also part of the Noor PV 1 program (170MW intotal), which also includes the construction of an 80 MW PV plant in Laayoune and a 20 MW PV power station located in Boujdour.
The Noor Ouarzazate IV PV project is scheduled for completion in the first quarterof 2018, while the 580 MW Ouarzazate solar complex is expected to be finalized by 2020.
Together, the NOOR PV I Programme and the NOOR Ouarzazate I, II and III CSP projects demonstrate the viability of all solar technologies, and advance the Morocco’s ambition in solar energy development.
News indicates, besides the NOOR PV I and NOOR O complex, Morocco Midelt is also under development, which will include hybrid CSP and PV projects, with between 150 MW and 190 MW of CSP for each project.
Deep discussions on Morocco’s CSP market and Noor CSP complex will be among the key topics during CSP Focus MENA 2017 conference which will be held on Sept.13-14 in Dubai. Click to get the event brochure.
